Last night, my friends and I watched Nova Mancao-Ramirez in her benefit concert at the Almont Inland Resort. I, somehow, had a nice time - being with friends and picture-taking. Here are the uppers and downers:
UPPERS
DOWNERS
UPPERS
- It is a benefit concert. Some people are still generous enough to share their talent for the sake of those streetchildren.
- The venue was okay. It was my first time to get into Almont Inland and I wasn't disappointed. The stage was simple but classy.
- The ticket looks good. Nova looks like Abegail Arenas there.
- Their male singers, especially the one who sang in "Miss Saigon," and "The Phantom of the Opera" medleys and "A Whole New World" deserve an applause - a roaring applause from the crowd. "Why God Why?" should have been sung with much intensity as it's the kind of emotion being warranted from the song.
- The dancer who had to do his own drama when putting up the set. He really ammused me.
- Marvin Gayramon is still Marvin Gayramon. No debate about it. And it's nice to hear that he's going back to school.
- Nova's dresses are nice.
- Butuan has artists! Wow!
DOWNERS
- The well-modulated voice-over person needs a thorough editing of his script. I know that he's a Pinoy and even a person in Butuan so why have the foreign twang when pronouncing those local names? And we're there to watch the concert and not listen to his frequent advertisement of those foods [sic] and drinks being sold at the counter.
- Though I love the repertoire since it contains mostly of Broadway songs, I was mad at how they interpreted the songs. Joanna and I couldn't help but look at each other with raised brows whenever she "murders" some of our favorite songs like in "Miss Saigon" and "The Phantom of the Opera."
- Nova often falls flat because she clenches her teeth. That also made her fail to enunciate the words properly making the long /a/ sound like long /e/.
- Her staccato part at the Phantom medley wasn't really neat. She should have cut that part out.
- That cute girl Nova had a duet with reminds me of Sharon's kids who have to go down of their normal comfortable pitch to make the frontline singer sing with ease.
- Marvin needs to be reminded that he's got a big head and that closed neck would emphasize his head. His pants and shirt would only work with tuxedo and boat tie with it, which were missing. He could have worn a different set of clothes.
- The slideshow. Shouldn't that be coordinated with the song as well? They were really fast that the show ended before the second song started. It could have been better that they would have shown Lea's pictures when she was a kid when those Little Miss Lea songs were sung, then a grown-up one during those songs when she was already grown up.
- Thanks to paying homage to those who have passed away. Aside from the fact that I don't know them, it's really creepy looking at those dead people's pictures being shown.
- Hasn't Christine Fernandez realized that she's not really a good singer? Come to think of it - she's been in voice classes for how many years, has joined Metropop Star Search, Star for a Night and Star in a Million, stars in a weekly variety show in Cebu where she could showcase her singing "talent(?)" but she's still off key.
- FSUU Choir has the voice. I would suppose that they are the college choir and not the high school one because I didn't see the class that our batchmates possess.
- What's something in common among Almont Chorale girls? Their bulging abdomens. Isn't empire cut designed to hide the tummy? Nice fabric, good concept of having their dresses different from each other, but the execution was poor.
Thank you for your comments, i will surely bear your every word in mind. God bless you...

Hi again! Kindly send my regards to Michelle Nicolasora, will you? I guess like you, i will remain a 'frustrated' singer... oh well...
ReplyDeleteAgain, i appreciate your comments, it's a bit harsh but you were honest and we need more people like you in this world - bold and forthright in your judgment of others.
Oh before i forget, sorry to hear about your being fired from work. I hope you get a job soonest (better than IBM for sure). You will be in my prayers duard (if i may call you that). If i ever will have another show in the near future, i will surely invite you and your friends. God bless you always...

Hi! It's such a shame that you've reached my blog and read my harsh comments. I apologize for being mean. I didn't mean to hurt you nor anybody. It's just plain observation and honest comments.
ReplyDeleteAs for my being fired, I'm okay with it. Ha ha! Let me quote Kate Winslet's character in "Revolutionary Road." "Won't you still be wasting your life toiling away at a job you find ridiculous?"
Hello! It really is a shame, but apology accepted duard. Whatever makes you happy... I can't say the same for my family and friends though. Don't worry, they just love me too much! hehe...
ReplyDeleteHope to meet you in person one day duard! Keep on doing whatever you think brings you true and lasting happiness. Who knows? You might end up having your own solo concert one day! If that day ever comes, you can be assured that i will be there to support you - whatever the outcome will be. Chao!
Oh God! This article is not really a personal attack against you. I didn't even expect that you would stumble upon my site since only my close friends are able to visit this regularly. Even Michelle hasn't memorize my URL.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about your concert until my bestfriend and his family invited me to watch it with them since it's for a good cause. It so happened that Michelle was also planning to go there. Since I was free and that I also wanted to spend more time with my friends, I watched it.
That's why when you texted her yesterday about this and telling her that the bald guy with her looks familiar (which is usually the case since bald guys look the same), I already had a feeling that you've read my blog and indeed you had.
By the way, Michelle hasn't contributed anything to my pang-ookray. I'm just her mean, boastful and blunt grade school classmate and she still remains as the nice, sweet and friendly Class Valedictorian who has the right to criticize things that have to do with Music but still opted to keep quiet and stay humble. These are solely my comments.
Don't worry about it duard, it's ok. I didn't take your comments personally because i respect your right to have your own opinion. My family and friends will get over it in time. :-)
ReplyDeleteAs to my texting michelle, yes i asked about you because you do look very familiar. I think i've seen you around somewhere. You're kinda cute too, your angst in your blog pages doesn't really match your face.... hehe... and i mean that in a good way ha.
I know michelle has nothing to do with it, i've known her for years and have always appreciated how laid back and humble she is despite her having the kind of talent and expertise to boast for. She has been and will always remain a dear friend to me. Keep on sharing your honest comments duard, maybe fate just had it that my family was able to stumble upon your blog and informed me about it. What were the chances huh?
Anyway, good luck to you and your future plans.
